I hope you all enjoyed the Valentine Banquets and shows as much as our musicians did! We brought a “joyful noise” to over 1500 people in our church and community. Many have asked me who the “youth” were that participated in the show this year, so I thought that I would introduce them to you, as well as tell them thanks for the great job they did!
Sarah Hancock, soloist, back up singer and tambourine, is the daughter of John and Marci Hancock and has sung in the 11:30 Praise Band since its beginning. She was a member of the LO Elementary School choir & our LOUMC Music Makers, Jr. High Choir, & youth band for many years, playing the parts of Mrs. Noah and other characters, such as, Tiffaneee (with 3 E’s) Griswall in LO Vacation Bible School Skits.
Lauren Pendas, soloist and back up singer, is the daughter of Paul and Paula Pendas. Her music education consists of singing in the Livingston Parish Children’s Choir (LPCC), LO Elementary School choir & Music Makers in elementary & Jr. High School, playing major rolls in the musicals, the youth Sunday special music services, and the 11:30 Praise Band for 4 years.
Caitlin Rush, back up singer and cowbell, is the daughter of Jeff and Dawn Rush. Her music training consists of 9 years of piano lessons, vocal training for 8 years in LPCC, the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, and the LOUMC Youth Praise Band as vocalist and keyboardist.
Brittany Crosby, pianist and back up singer, is the daughter of Mark and Terrie Crosby. She has studied piano for 10 years and was a 5-year member of LPCC and our own Music Makers. Her “fame” on stage began as the moon in Twinkle. She continued musical training in the LO Elementary school choirs, Young Americans & LPCC Showchoir. Brittany is one of our pianists for the 8:00 worship service and the 11:30 Praise Band. She also plays with our Youth Band Fusion. Her showchoir training prepared her for dancing on stage with her dad this year!
Travis Rushing, guitarist and singer, is the son of Joel and Jill Rushing. His musical background began in the Live Oak choirs starring as “Noah” in Get On Board, Children and Don’t Rock the Ark in the Music Makers. He studied piano & guitar, and vocal music in the LPCC choirs for 7 years, and sang in the LO Elementary choirs. He also serves as a guitarist and singer in the 11:30 Praise Band, and Wednesday night youth services.
Jonathan Hetrick, bass guitarist, is the son of Cindy and David Hetrick. He has studied piano and voice in LPCC and was a member of the Music Makers Children’s Choir for many years. Jonathan has been playing bass guitar for the 11:30 service for 4 years and made his debut in the Valentine’s Banquet in 2005.
Ryan Rushing, drums and percussion, is the son of Melanie and Perry Rushing. He has played in the Valentine Banquets for 4 years. His musical training also began with piano lessons, the Music Makers choir, and 8 years of music training in the LPCC choral program. His 4 years of drum lessons began his drumming career, in which he has played in numerous bands, community events, and for LO Methodist & Broadmoor Methodist church services & youth bands for 9 years.
Shelby Rushing, soloist, back up singer, guitarist, and pianist, is the son of Melanie and Perry Rushing. His musical training began with 9 years of piano study, 5 years of guitar lessons, and 9 years of vocal training in the LPCC choirs. He was selected to perform with numerous auditioned Honor Choirs and LA All State Choirs during his school years. He also was a member of the LSU Schola Cantorum. He participated in our very first VB when he was only 16 years old, and has played every year since and for many church services throughout the years.
Many thanks to all who participate in our music ministry, and give their time, talent, & gift of service to our church each and every week!
Melanie

This event would not have been possible without the efforts of many people, including those of you who support this church through your time, talent, and generous donations.
