"Angel" means "messenger." We pray that God would use our children and youth to be His messengers this year. May the story of God's great love for us be evident as our "angels" sing about Jesus, our Savior. And may Jesus be glorified for all He has done for us!

News From Youth!

News From the Youth!

October was a great month at theLivingRoom! There were several exciting events for our youth in the past month ranging anywhere from service projects to social events.

Our Lock-In, The Night With No End, was packed with excitement. We were fortunate to have the band F.A.B.L.E.D play a concert for us. The highlight of the night was a Biblically based Video Scavenger hunt that led us on quests around the church grounds completing creative tasks at each location. Our Wednesday night worship band Remnant led us in a sunrise service. As a result of the night, one of the students visiting from an area church accepted Christ as his savior for the first time!

Please make plans to attend our annual thanksgiving youth dinner. The dinner will be a Cajun style thanksgiving meal Sunday evening, November 23 at 5:30pm. We would love to have all of our youth and their parents attend for a time of family, food, and fellowship.

On a personal note, I would greatly appreciate if all of you would pray for Katie Copeland, one of our youth volunteers, as well myself as we will both be traveling to Israel with a group from Greenwell Springs Baptist on November 12 and will be returning November 22.
Wednesday Nights: 6:00pm
Sunday Nights (High School): 6:30pm

Fall Festival
October is here and with that brings cooler weather (we hope) and FALL FESTIVAL! Yea! Mark your calendars for Friday, October 31st from 6:00 to 8:00PM. We will be hosting our Halloween alternative that we call Fall Festival. At Fall Fest, children can be in a safe and fun environment without feeling like they are "missing out." From 6 to 7:30, children will play games in a carnival like atmosphere and will win prizes and candy. Hot dogs, chili, popcorn and drinks will be served as well. At 7:30, the kids will go outside for "Trunk or Treat" where parents decorate their cars and give candy out of their trunks. We are in need of donations of individually wrapped candy and small toys for prizes. If you would like to make a donation to help pay for expenses, please earmark your checks "Fall Festival". Thank you. Please call Terrie Crosby at the church office if you can volunteer to run a booth or serve food.

AWANA
Beginning in October, we will be accepting donations and gift items for Operation Christmas Child, the unique worldwide outreach of Samaritan's Purse. Each year through this ministry we share God's love with millions of poor, sick and suffering children by delivering shoe boxes filled with toys, school supplies, candy and personal items. These Christmas gifts not only bring joy to precious children, they also open hearts to hear about God's greatest gift, His Son, Jesus Christ. You can be a part of this project by simply donating gifts from the following list or by making a cash donation. Please remember to pray for the child that will receive your gift. With your help, we can bring the good news of Christ's love to hurting children and their families. (remember items need to be small enough to fit in a shoe box.
Suggested gifts:
1. Toys: small cars, balls dolls stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, toys that light up or make noise (with batteries) slinky, etc
2. School supplies: pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, coloring books, ink pads and stamp sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators.
3. Hygiene items: tooth brush & toothpaste, mild bar soap, comb, and washcloths.
4. Other: hard candy, lollipops, mints, gum sunglasses, flashlights (with batteries) ball caps, socks, T-shirts, toy jewelry, hair clips, watches, small picture books.

DO NOT include the following items: Used items, war related items (such as toy guns, knives, etc) chocolate or perishable food items, liquids of any kind (shampoo, liquid soap, lotion) medicines or vitamins, breakable items.
You may drop these items off at the AWANA office at the church. Please call me, James Harthoorne or Linda Compeau .

College and Career
Career Ministries is having a roasted chicken dinner fundraiser on Sunday November 9th from 11:00 to 1:30. Tickets are on sale now after each service and the day of the dinner. You may take out or dine in.

Next Ladies Fellowship

The next Ladies Fellowship will be on November 8th, 2008 from 9 - 11 a.m at the LOUMC FLC. Our dear sisters Dottie Kimble and Nancy McGraw will be sharing with us on this day. Dottie will be sharing on the main topic of the day: "God Raised Me Up to More than I "Could" be". We will get the opportunity to hear about God's glory in all that He has gifted her with...(so very timely to tell her recent story about our new sanctuary). Child care will be available. Please bring some food to share if you are able, and invite your friends--they do not have to be attendees of LOUMC. We hope to see you there.

Ladies Bible Study Begins Aug.14th

The Ladies Bible Study which is held every Thursday morning during the school year, will begin on August 14th at 9:30 am. The study is held at the home of Melanie Rushing and is led by Annice Ruth Addison. They will be studying the book of Matthew with concentration on the parables. Ladies, please join us for this time of fellowship. Please call Melanie at 665-1571 or Annice Ruth at 665-6797 with any questions.

New Monday Evening Ladies Study
We are having a 10 week long Woman's bible study called The Patriarchs starting August 18th at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. Encountering the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Taken primarily from Genesis, chapters 12-50, Beth Moore provides fascinating details from the lives of the patriarchs. Women will discover God's pursuit of relationships and the unfolding of His earthly plan: how through one nation - and ultimately one man - all people on earth will be blessed.
Participants will explore concepts such as blessing, covenant, and promise, and the bearing each has on a New Testament believer's life today. Group members will also explore the Hebrew names of God introduced on the early pages of Scripture.
The cost of the members book is $15.00 and you can sign up before or after all three services in front of the church or in the FLC or contact Kristy Mixon @ kristymixon@cox.net
Come join us for Wonderful fellowship and study of God's Word!

Ironman

Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another."

Every Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. starting January 13th, we will begin a men's weekly study group. For approximately one hour we'll have an open discussion about an article of faith we will read each week. I have been a part of a group like this at Blackwater UMC for several years, and have really enjoyed the benefits of a group of men desiring to be closer to the Lord! If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact Mark Schiltz

QUILTING MINISTRY

Wednesday Mornings in the Family Life Center

Four years ago with 17 flat sheets, we started a quilt ministry. We asked God for guidance and approximately 800 quilts later, some 20 people (men and women) are still meeting on Wednesday morning in the F.L.C. to assemble quilts. (The tops are pieced at home.)

Quilts have gone far and near-Romania, Sri Lanka, Monroe, Mississippi, New Orleans, Tennessee(St.Jude), Baton Rouge and Denham Springs- to shut ins, families whose homes have been burned, foster children, and abused women and children.

God has blessed this ministry by people donating material, donating and purchasing quilts and opening door for us to minister with the quilts.

We have been blessed lately by being able to help the Child Protection Agency. Bags are filled with a quilt, a teddy bear, toys etc. We are thankful for people of other churches helping in this ministry by furnishing us with these articles, as well as those who have purchased quilts to defray some of the expenses.

When asked who are we making quilts for, our answer is "We don't know." God is in control, and it seems that when we have some made, a need arises.

If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please come and join us on Wednesday mornings in the Family Life Center
